Three years ago Ahmaud Arbery lost his life because of ignorance and racial hatred. Since 2021 Together We Stand NC has commemorated his life by hosting Maud 2.23 events the week of his death. 

 

This year’s Maud 2.23: Stand Up welcomed 1378 runners and walkers in North Carolina and across the country. The 18 events in seven North Carolina cities raised $17,560 for 5 local charities. North Carolina Community for Justice, Building Hope, RunningWorks, Equality NC, and Porch Durham.  The events were hosted in Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro, High Point, Greenville, and Fayetteville. Since 2021, Together We Stand NC has raised over $50,000 for local non-profit organizations.

 

Several of the Maud runs were followed by an hour-long Courageous Conversation with the topic The Language of Racism.  Each conversation in the four communities was an opportunity to listen to community members and see through their lenses. The conversations were the highlight of the week.

 

All participating brewery partners created a special beer, Stand Up, for the Maud 2.23 events. The participating breweries were: Glass Jug Beer Lab (Durham), Ponysaurus Brewing (Durham), Fullsteam Brewery (Durham), Goofy Foot Taproom and Brewery (High Point), Divine Barrel Brewing (Charlotte), and NoDa Brewing (Charlotte).

 

Since June 2020 Together We Stand NC has sought to find ways to engage communities and build awareness of issues that affect people of color and different genders. Through events like Stand Up: Maud 2.23, Courageous Conversations, and the Unity 5K series, TWS has led the conversation. We hope you join us.
